Organic cabling is the knitting stitch used to make this piece. A technique I developed last year, every cable is created in a place that feels right during the knitting. This means that every scarf is completely unique, as no two scarves have circular cables in the same spots.
Concept: Bealtaine is one of the four markers of the changing seasons in the Celtic Irish calendar. Celebrated on the 1st of May, it marks the beginning of summer.
An integral part of the Bealtaine celebration is the fire festival on the Hill of Uisneach, which this scarf is inspired by. At the beginning of May a large bonfire is lit on the Hill of Uisneach in Westmeath, the exact centre of Ireland. As history tells it, smaller torches from this flame were carried across the land to light other bonfires so that after a couple hours every significant hill on the island had been lit from a single source.
Design: Circular neck tube scarf that goes over the head.
The overall composition is made to be a satellite view of Ireland’s landscape. The green Donegal wool acts as the vibrant Irish grass. Knitted circular cables on these scarves are made to imitate the hills seen from above. Within these cable wells are small amber beads which act as the burning Bealtaine bonfires… a little treat is that the Hill of Uisneach bead is slightly darker than all the rest!
Washing Instructions: Recommended to hang in the outdoors if to air out any undesired scent and restore freshness. Only wash with water if needed to remove stains or stubborn scents.
Hand washing in lukewarm water with a little fabric softener is the best way to care for your scarf. Machine washing is also okay on cold temperature. No tumble drying allowed!! Lay out on clothes horse to dry.
