About the Artist

Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Clodagh and I am the artist & designer behind Wool Cult.

Knitting, crocheting, weaving and all things constructed textiles have been my passion for nearly as long as I can remember. Starting in primary school knitting with other students’ grannies, I have now completed my BA(Hons) in Textile Design from NCAD and gone on to win awards for my artwork.

My work often delves into the connection of humans with nature on all levels of biology, history and spirituality. I create textile art using only natural fibres that is made to be admired and thought-provoking, while also maintaining the desire to be used and passed down through generations. A combination of tactile stitch techniques alongside imagery, poetry and handwriting ensures the story behind each piece is consciously at the forefront of its design.

It’s such an honour to be acknowledged by the Design and Crafts Council in the shortlist, but to win two awards is amazing and I am unbelievably honoured and excited. Experiencing this type of support from the DCCI is really lovely and I cannot thank them enough. Well done to everyone shortlisted and winners! Summer is over! And so is my wee hiatus from yarn. I decided to take a break during the summer after the business of the final year of my degree. It was so wonderful to dedicate some time to catching up with friends and family and now I’m feeling more refreshed and ready to get back into things. I’m giving my website and socials some TLC and planning some new projects which I’m really excited to get going. Attached are some miscellaneous pictures and videos from June-September. Great food, memories and lovely empty time spent watered in a gorgeous Irish summer (plus a trip to España).
